I think that we have all been conditioned to ignore so much of what is around us, and there are actually many things worth paying attention to. When I started painting, I knew I didn’t want to paint sweeping landscapes or well-constructed still life scenes. I was drawn to the mundane – the moments from life that we all discount as not worthy of note. It occurred to me that maybe these overlooked moments were actually interesting enough to document, and perhaps even celebrate. This is what I aim for in my painting.
